Middle-aged couple Terry and Marilyn attempt to relocate from Whitby to a 500-year-old farmhouse in the Pennines, which they set out to transform into a home for their large family. Architect George Clarke offers advice about restoring the collapsed roof and laying a concrete floor, and lends moral support when flooding means they lose precious time and have to seek shelter with Marilyn's father.
Presented by architectural designer George Clarke, Build A New Life follows people leaving the rat-race of the city in pursuit of new lifestyles and new homes in the countryside. The dream houses they are creating are inspiring, architecturally challenging and are all undertaken with a modest budget.

I love watching these shows, of stuff getting fixed up. But i think i would have built a new home instead of trying to fix that mess. It looked like it was cracked all over it. It looked scary to mess with.

I hope, they always stay safe + healthy; Years ago I read in sciptures/saw on youtube, that a COMET or something would fly in the atlantic ocean, that a FLOOD would go over the whole UK....But,don`t have Fear, there are to many WRONG prophets everywhere, it it is nostradamus, alois irlmaier or someone else...WE STAY POSITIVE

Typical od any authority...quite happy to let a precious building rot away, and even happier dictating chapter and verse to a couple who are working their fingers to the bone, who have invested their money and passion to revive the building and giving not a scrap of help, just crticism and bureacricy...

What an amazing woman! Intense physical labor that would challenge someone half her age. All I could think about with her hoisting those heavy roof tiles was how much my back would be aching! i feel like the interviewer dude wanted them to say "YEAH WE'RE MISSERABLE, WE HATE THIS!!!", while they repeated time and time again how they were passionately pouring their all into something they feel is their golden ticket to freedom from the draining city life. Like how negative can you be.

I stop the video at 01:09... working on a roof, no safety at all... this is not a video to publish and be proud. It would be better to cut all parts where this lovely couple work without any attention of elementary safety.

It always amazes me that the conservation departments are happy to sit there & let these old buildings literally fall to bits, but as soon as someone takes on the mammoth job & cost of restoring one, there they are with their forms & red tape and their big noses making everything 20 times harder and more expensive than it needed to be. 🙄

He let's his wife do the hardest and most dangerous job? It's absolutely illegal to work this way in the Netherlands, also it can't be on tv because children think it's okay to work like this. Where's the safety gear? I can't stand watching this, if they survived i'm happy for them but this is very dangerous and irresponsible behaviour.

I have seen many of this programs on different channels and in the end couples ended up divorcing and not even wanting to be in the same room or site, this couple is incredible. Why they did it on their own? I don´t know, but if you put that hard labour and they still love each other, it is to make a program to know the reasons. I know people who had a fight over a "when are you going to drill a hole to hung the picture". This couple is amazing.

Regarding the extension they had to knock down. How old was it? It had to be very old. It should have been grandfathered in. I mean how original can they really make the building anyway? They're using modern materials anyway. Tremendous job.
